Senator Ed Markey, JD, served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 37 years before his election to the Senate in 2013. He has long worked on FDA oversight and, along with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), successfully pushed for a Surgeon General’s Report on Substance Abuse, Addiction and Health. A consumer champion and national leader on energy, environmental protection and telecommunications policy, While in the House, Sen. Markey served as the Ranking Member of the Natural Resources Committee, served on the Energy and Commerce Committee, and served for 20 years as Chair or Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet. Senator Markey received his bachelor’s from Boston College and JD from Boston College Law School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was elected to the Massachusetts State House where he served two terms.
